A human rights organization calling on the United Nations to provide urgent funds for the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon

A human rights organization called on the United Nations to intervene urgently to provide financial assistance to the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon to face the severe economic and social crisis they are experiencing as a result of the Corona crisis and other chronic economic crises.

The Palestinian Association for Human Rights (witness) said in a statement that the preventive procedures taken in the country within the framework of public mobilization have led to the stopping of business movement, coinciding with the dramatic rise in prices of food and basic commodities, which was largely reflected in the living reality of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

And (witness) alerted in its statement that there are angry voices that started to rise and warn of an imminent social explosion, if the situation continues as it is from closing and expensive, amid warnings of a major humanitarian and social catastrophe and calls for urgent action in order to develop a relief plan that relieves refugees in this crisis.

According to the statement of the human rights organization, nearly 90% of the Palestinian refugees in Lebanon are now unemployed, that is, they depend on the direct consumption pattern.

In its statement, (witness) asked about the fate of the Palestinian refugees if the Corona pandemic crisis persists, and to whom they left , aren’t they the responsibility of the United Nations in general and UNRWA in particular?

And witness called UNRWA to take urgent action, and to take necessary serious steps to meet the needs of the refugees in Palestinian camps and gatherings, and to establish a relief program for a period of six months as a first stage.

(witness) stated in its statement that there are approximately 25 thousand Palestinian refugees who came from Syria to Lebanon because of the bloody Syrian crisis and those need urgent help asking UNRWA to replace the exchange of financial aid, despite its small number, which those people get from the Lebanese currency to The dollar, due to the low purchasing power of the Lebanese pound.
