Following the Announcement of Treating Palestinians in Syria as Foreigners, (Witness) Seeks Clarification from the Syrian Consul in Lebanon

On Monday, July 14, 2025, a delegation from the Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Witness) visited the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Lebanon, where they met with the Consul, Mr. Firas Saem Al-Dahr, to follow up on the case of a Palestinian refugee in Syria being classified as a foreigner.

During the meeting, the delegation discussed the details of this error and emphasized the need to rectify the legal status of Palestinian refugees in Syria in a way that preserves their rights and national identity.

The delegation also raised the broader situation of Palestinian refugees in Syria. His Excellency the Consul affirmed that the reconstruction process will include everyone, including Palestinian refugees. The discussion also addressed the situation of Syrian-Palestinian refugees currently in Lebanon and the importance of facilitating their procedures to obtain legal residency.

Additionally, the delegation presented the digital campaign launched by the Association to search for missing persons in Syria, and both sides emphasized the importance of exerting all possible efforts in this critical humanitarian matter.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the (Witness) delegation presented His Excellency the Consul with a copy of the Association's annual report on the conditions of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Both parties affirmed the importance of continued cooperation and coordination in following up on the issues concerning Palestinian refugees in both Lebanon and Syria.
