(Witness) Meets with the Head of the International Red Cross Mission in Lebanon to Discuss Humanitarian Issues

A delegation from the Palestinian Association for Human Rights (Witness), led by the organization’s director, Dr. Mahmoud Hanafi, and Mr. Alaa Mousa from the Public Relations Department, met with Ms. Simone Casabianca Aeschlimann, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) mission in Lebanon, in the presence of Mr. Shouqi Amineddine, Advisor on Humanitarian and Political Affairs. The meeting took place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the ICRC headquarters in Hamra, Beirut.

 

The two sides discussed several key issues, most notably the file of Palestinian detainees and missing persons in Syria. (Witness) highlighted its efforts in documenting cases and explored ways to strengthen cooperation with the ICRC in locating missing persons and providing psychological and social support to their families. The meeting also addressed the repercussions of the recent war on Gaza, the ICRC’s role in providing humanitarian and medical support, ensuring civilian protection, and contributing to the reconstruction of infrastructure, as well as assisting in locating missing persons or detainees held by the Israeli occupation.

 

At the end of the meeting (Witness) emphasized the importance of enhancing its partnership with the ICRC through training and capacity-building programs, joint humanitarian initiatives, and international advocacy for the Palestinian cause.
