The Palestinian association for Human Rights (Witness) appreciates the positions of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in rejecting any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land, particularly in the context of the plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, January 25, 2025. This plan, which targets the displacement of 2.2 million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to neighboring countries, represents a blatant violation of international law and human rights, and poses a serious threat to the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the protection of their national identity.
President Trump announced his "cleansing" plan for Gaza, claiming that he aims to bring peace to the region by relocating Palestinians to Egypt and Jordan. These statements were met with a categorical rejection from both the Egyptian and Jordanian governments. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed its firm position against any attempt to displace Palestinians, emphasizing its commitment to the Palestinian people’s right to their land. Similarly, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed his country’s rejection of such attempts, pointing out that the forced displacement of Palestinians is a violation of their fundamental rights.
(Witness) confirms that this plan is in direct contradiction with United Nations resolutions and international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the forcible displacement of populations in occupied territories. These policies not only aim to change the demographic makeup of Gaza but also seek to eliminate the Palestinian cause altogether by attempting to uproot the Palestinian people from their land.
(Witness) further asserts that the Palestinian issue is a human rights issue, and any attempts to liquidate these rights through forced displacement or any unjust solutions will not deviate from the steadfast Palestinian right to return to their homes and to self-determination.
International laws provide a strong framework for condemning forced displacement, with their provisions serving as a reference for applying political and diplomatic pressure on Israel through international organizations such as the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.
The Palestinian association for Human Rights (Witness)appreciates the positions of Egypt and Jordan and calls on the international community to take practical and firm steps to hold accountable those parties seeking to implement these expansionist plans. It also stresses the importance of enhancing Arab and international cooperation to protect the rights of Palestinians and provide the necessary support to strengthen their resilience in the face of these challenges.
